Western States Strider Entry

Striders have an entry into the Western States 100 mile Endurance Run. We receive this from the organizers as a gift for providing the Last Chance Aid Station at mile 43. The Club has been doing this for more than 25 consecutive years and we are very proud that this is one of the biggest and best Aid Stations in the Event.

We will draw the winner from the hat at the Clambake Run and Picnic on August 24, 2008.

You'll be allocated tickets in the draw as follows:

  • Paid up member on August 24, 2008. 1 ticket
  • Never won the Western States Strider Entry. 1 ticket
  • Every year of helping at Last Chance in last 5 years. 2 tickets max
  • Club Service (eg Board Member, Relay Captain, Station Captain) in previous 5 years. 2 tickets max

You don't need to attend the Clambake to be in the draw. However you must have met the WS qualification standard on August 24.

An earlier version of this page stated that you could enter the draw, even if you had not met the qualification stardards for Western States and that you would have to meet those stardards by Nov 30, 2008. At an exceptional board meeting on Monday August 4, 2008 it was decided by the board to require qualification as a condition of entry in the Striders draw.

Rules of the Striders Draw

The rules for 2008 were modified from our earlier proceedure to accomodate the request from Western States to provide the name of our entry by September 15, 2008. Additionally, we had to relax the condition of being an entry in the Western States public lottery. Western States cancelled the public lottery in 2008 following the cancellation of the event in June 2008.

It is the intention of the board to review the following rules before our draw in 2009.

Rules in 2007

We draw the winner from the hat. Any Strider who fails to secure a place in the Western States public lottery on December 8, 2007 may enter the Striders Draw. You'll be allocated tickets in the draw as follows:

  • Paid up member on December 8, 2007. 1 ticket
  • Never won the Western States Strider Entry. 1 ticket
  • Every year of helping at Last Chance in last 5 years. 2 tickets max
  • Club Service (eg Board Member, Relay Captain, Station Captain) in previous 5 years. 2 tickets max
