Camp and Hike in Yosemite - Friday to Sunday August 20-22, 2010

The Striders next big event of the year is a hiking weekend in Yosemite on August 20th-22nd.  This is open to all Striders and their friends and families.  Apart from the costs for travel --carpooling suggested-- and food the only other cost should be the modest campground fees for 2 nights and a $20 National Park fee per car.

We will be driving up to Yosemite on Friday August 20th and plan to camp at Oh Ridge.  To get there, go through Yosemite to Lee Vining, south on Highway 395 to June Lake, follow the signs to June Lake, then turn on to Oh Ridge.  We have sites 84 and 85.  The sites are reserved, not first come first serve.  We suggest departure from San Jose no later than 2:00pm.  The trip will take about 5 hours.  Here are more exact directions:

395 South from Lee Vining;
158 South to junction with June Lake Loop;
Right on North Shore Drive;
Left on Pine Cliff Road;
0.5 mile to the entrance; Sites 83,84,85; 2:00pm Check in.

On Saturday we'll hike up Mt. Conness (altitude about 12000 ft).  Saturday night will be a victory celebration.

Bring your own food, snacks, tent, sleeping bag, etc.  Don't forget a hat and sunblock.  Please sign up early so we will know if we need another site.

On Sunday morning we'll strike camp return through Yosemite and park near May Lake again like we did last year.

We'll hike in north to the lake and then head on up Mount Hoffman at 10,850 ft to the west.  Then hike back down, for 8 miles or longer as you desire and then travel back home.

So dig out those hiking boots and your tent.
