Clambake Run and Picnic - August 24

The annual Clambake Run and Picnic is scheduled for Sunday August 24. We have a menu of runs to offer: 18 easy downhill miles, 12 ups and downs, or all 30 if you prefer. The 18 miler starts at Saratogota Gap and runs downhill to Big Basin State Park. The 12 miler starts at Big Basin and crosses the hill to Wadell Beach.

The picnic's a family pot-luck affair. Bring your kids, other half, parents, who-ever. It's potluck, so everybody's welcome. There will be a charge of $8 for club members and $10 for visitors to cover the cost of the 'Clambake' speciality - Penny's Salmon Chowder (and another surprise soup).

And if you're feeling really hardy, bring your togs and swim in the Pacific and thaw out afterwards at the stove. No open fires - don't want to burn down the last tree in California.

The transport arrangements in previous years have involved perplex logistics. This year, all runners will meet at Mike and Wanda's House (near Stevens Creek County Park) and we'll leave from there. We aim to minimize gas useage. We will have two starts: 6.00am and 6:45am for the 'slower' and 'faster' groups. Both groups should arrive at Big Basin about 10.15.

Volunteers for Clambake

We're looking for a couple of volunteers to provide the 'rolling aid station'. This involves providing an aid station at Waterman Gap, China Grade and Big Basin Park HQ. You'll be reimbursed for the supplies. You'll be busy from 7am until 11am - however it isn't arduous. Being good at waiting is the key skill. You'll need a larger vehicle (people carrier or SUV) to carry the supplies and a table for the station. Interested? Contact the board: board@stevevenscreekstriders.org.

Western States Entry 

Striders have a 'slot' in the Western States Endurance Run in return for our contribution of providing the aid station at Last Chance. Normally we have a ballot of qualified club members at our Holiday Party in December.

This year, however, we've been requested by Western States to provide the name of our runner by September 15. And so, we've decided to hold the ballot for our entry at the Clambake Run and Picnic on August 24. You don't need to attend the Clambake to be in the draw. However you will have to meet the WS qualification standard on August 24.

US Half Marthon - November 2 

St Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee are looking for volunteers to run and fundraise on their behalf in the US Half Marathon on November 2. The US Half is an out and back over Golden Gate Bridge, with the start/finish at the Aquatic Center in San Francisco. More info: click here.

6.15am sharp at Freemont Older. Meet in the parking lot at the top of Prospect Road, Cupertino. 6.5mile/1 hour trail run on Seven Springs, Coyote Ridge and Toyon Trails. Beautiful sunrise run.
