Last Chance - Fri/Sat 22/23 June, 2007

Western States 2007 (3 of 6) :

The Aid Station at mile 43 has been provided by Striders for 26 consecutive years. A proud record. The Station's called 'Last Chance' because it's on the site of a ghost mining village of that name. The village was finally deserted in 1970. At one time, I believe there were about 130 living there. Today, it's forested wilderness.

We camped on Friday night. Our first runner arrived at 11.21am and the station closed at 5:15pm. It's very convenient - there's no pressure to set up in the morning and folks who are pacing and crewing are able to work on the aid station before going off to their next supporting role further down the trail.

The Club really appreciates the help given by non-members who volunteer (and members who volunteer). This year we had a record 50 volunteers from the club, San Jose Fit, WSER and other friends and nice folks. Thanks everybody who made this 'The Best Aid Station on Western States'.
