Guadalupe Park Trail

Description

This is a downtown run on a totally flat course. It's easy to dislike this run because of it's location, it's surface (asphalt) and part of it on surface streets. So why run this? Well, I live downtown and I run here several times a week. It's very convenient to just put on my kit and go run. And when I get back, I shower and have something to eat. No car needed for me.

The trail has it's own kind of urban charm. When Santhi lived downtown, we'd run this together on Wednesday evenings and I believe she also liked the trail.

The trail is rather short. It's about 3 miles long and starts at 280, passes Adobe and goes north almost as far as the airport. In fact it's possible to continue along the levees of the Guadalupe River to the Baylands and beyond. So ultimately, I believe it's 30-40 miles in length.

However, for me, I usually run from home, to the south end of the trail below I-280 just beyond the discovery meadow. The then proceed east on William Street to 16th. North (for 2 blocks) and then west on San Carlos which takes you through San Jose State University (which is pedestrianized and closed to traffic). You can return to the trail along Park, however I usually proceed North on Second, through St Jame's Park and Ryland to rejoin the trail at Coleman Avenue.

Location

This is a downtown trail. You can join the trail at Adobe or the Center for the Performing Arts, or the Children's Discovery Museum.
